  • Serving on Eastern Region team to improve ER tropical page and make more consistent with southern region tropical page.

  • Lead WFO RAH transition to tropical office.
    • October, 2018: Regional Cline Award for demonstrated exceptional leadership in program management with the complex transition of WFO Raleigh to a tropical office
    • September, 2018: Local Cline Award for outstanding leadership in planning and executing the WFO Raleigh transition to a tropical office.
    • June, 2018: Special act award for efforts related to implementation of the Tropical program at WFO RAH. “For his exceptional leadership and hard work in making WFO Raleigh a tropical office by June 1, 2018. As the WFO Raleigh Tropical Team Leader, Ryan served as the “go-to” person for all activities associated with “spinning up” the tropical program. Working with staff at the local, regional, and national levels, Ryan spent many hours attending collaboration meetings, testing software, identifying and communicating shortfalls, and training forecasters. All of this was accomplished while Ryan worked rotating shifts as part of his normal course of work.”

  • Serving on Digital Aviation Users Group national team and national smart tools team.

Serving as Satellite Focal Point.

  • Serving as NWSEO representative for GOES-16 OT&E process.
  • Participated in GOES-R Experimental Warning Program at the Hazardous Weather Testbed in Norman, OK in May 2016.
  • Wrote blog post reviewing the utility of 1-minute super rapid scan GOES data during severe wx operations. Case was selected for inclusion in an NWA Journal of Meteorology manuscript on case studies involving super rapid scan GOES data.
  • Attended NWS Operations Proving Ground Operational Readiness Experiment for GOES-R products at NWSTC in Kansas City, MO in Feb. 2015.
  • Published peer reviewed paper on orographic cirrus research.
  • Serving as AWIPS II Co-Focal Point.

    • Used localization perspective to fix smart tools in GFE.
    • Organized office visit from WFO Greer forecaster on the use of winter wx smart tools.
